The Wong Way
Back in July 2006, I bought my first digital SLR camera. The very next day, I brought it with me to Siren Festival in Coney Island. Although the shots from that concert didn't turn out too hot - too far away, too much of a novice with the camera - I wasn't deterred from future attempts at concert shooting. Ultimately, I decided to start a musicblog, titled The Wong Way, featuring photos I took from the concerts I went to. It ran regularly from July 2006 to December 2006 and while I'd like to start it back up some day, I prefer to just enjoy concerts from the sidelines. But who knows what the future will bring, right?
Jens Lekman @ TT The Bear’s Place, Cambridge 22.07.2006
Oh You’re So Amazing Jens! Playing to a sold-out TT’s in Boston, Jens Lekman put on an awesome show that was engaging and cute. He had the stage presense and charm of Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian, right down to same lilting, accented voice when he speaks to the audience. With a band of six lovely lasses for support, Jens jumped right into making sweet, beautiful live music.

When the girls were taking the stage, the crowd noticed that the drummer brought two garbage bags onto the stage with her. Near the end of the set, we found out what was in those bags – balloons!

After disappearing offstage, Jens came back for an encore with touring parter, Frida Hynvonen. After a bit about how he didn’t speak English, with all the phrases he knew the result of sounding it out phonetically, he and Frida did a song all in Finnish. Before he started singing, he uttered a few phrases in Finnish and Frida provided the translations, very much in the fashion of “languages on tape” – highly amusing.
