The Wong Way

Back in July 2006, I bought my first digital SLR camera. The very next day, I brought it with me to Siren Festival in Coney Island. Although the shots from that concert didn't turn out too hot - too far away, too much of a novice with the camera - I wasn't deterred from future attempts at concert shooting. Ultimately, I decided to start a musicblog, titled The Wong Way, featuring photos I took from the concerts I went to. It ran regularly from July 2006 to December 2006 and while I'd like to start it back up some day, I prefer to just enjoy concerts from the sidelines. But who knows what the future will bring, right?

Spank Rock @ Pool Parties, McCarren Park Pool, Brooklyn 03.09.2006

Spank Rock, with a little help from some friends, closed out the inaugural Pool Parties season. With their mix of rap and clever mixing by the DJs on stage, they were the perfect group to bring the summer to a close. The spectators in the pool were dancing to the beat but they weren’t alone as the stage quickly filled with all the usual denizens of the backstage area, dancing along with the crowd beneath them. As if Spank Rock wasn’t enough, M.I.A. made a surprise appearance, singing a few lines from “Galang” while whipping the crowd into a frenzy.

Thanks to the guys at JellyNYC for making these concerts happen and, on a personal note, for allowing me the opportunity to take photos from the stage and press area. I can’t wait to see what these guys have in store for next summer.
