Avec, Part 1
In Chicago for a few days (because I can), I went to Paul Kahan’s Avec on the Near West Side for an absolutely awesome meal – well, a light meal since I was a little full from lunch when I walked in. A pity, really, since there were so many things that looked like they would be worth trying. Ah well, next time!

Chorizo-stuffed Medjool dates with smoked bacon and piquillo pepper-tomato sauce. It was everything I was told it would be and it was amazing.

A dissected view of the date.

The night’s special – crispy pig and trotter salad with a salsa verde creme fraiche, criminis, frisee, and scallions. Man, do I love pig.
