Belgium Comes to Cooperstown, Part 1
Every late July/early August, Brewery Ommegang holds their annual Belhium Comes to Cooperstown event – a weekend of Belgian-style beer tasting, camping, and massive late night drinking. We lucked out that weekend with mild temperatures and, more importantly, less than oppressive humidity. As volunteers, we got to attend for free and, to top it off, we all got a case of beer for two-hour shifts!

Avec, Part 2
After my wonderful meal, I took a few photos of the chefs and staff at work behind the counter.

Avec, Part 1
In Chicago for a few days (because I can), I went to Paul Kahan’s Avec on the Near West Side for an absolutely awesome meal – well, a light meal since I was a little full from lunch when I walked in. A pity, really, since there were so many things that looked like they would be worth trying. Ah well, next time!

The New New Times Square
Some context here – the New Times Square was the Disneyfication of the area after the gritty seventies and eighties. The New New Times Square includes a brand new TKTS kiosk and a car-free Broadway. Unfortunately, the plans to go car-free came before they had time to put in real street furniture so, in the meantime, we got stuck with cheap lawn chairs. Still, it’s better than the eternal gridlock of cars intersecting at Seventh Avenue and Broadway while way too many people were crammed on narrow sidewalks.

29th Birthday Party @ Studio Square
A mere four days after my actual birthday, a bunch of my friends came out to celebrate at Studio Square.

Mets Spring Training
Our second stop on the spring training trip took us to Port St. Lucie (or is it Tradition now?) to see the Mets at their spring training facility. We got there a few hours before the game so we watched a little of their morning practice before coming back later for the game.
Former Mets pitcher and current SNY analyst Ron Darling signs an autograph for a fan.

Hole in the Wall
When you’re thinking of a name for a dive bar, “Hole in the Wall” seems rather apt. Their beer selection was a bit meh but their chorizo taco was really good.

Austin’s Congress Avenue Bridge Bats
Austin’s Congress Avenue Bridge sees a lot of cars and people cross it daily but as the sun sets, a different sort comes out – lots and lots of bats. They hide out in the dark crevices under the bridge during the day but come 8pm or so the night I passed by, they all came out in waves. Quite beautiful as long as you heed the warnings not to touch any fallen bats.

Tour of AT&T Park, Part 3
Now back inside of AT&T Park, we find ourselves in the ridiculously pricey Oracle Suites Level. The amenities and the views of the field are amazing as long as you can afford it.

Tour of AT&T Park, Part 2
Continuing with the tour of AT&T Park, we’re now on the View Level affording us a great view of the whole stadium. After a few minutes to look at the giant Coke bottle, the retired numbers, and a fantastic wall mural of Giants greats, it was time to make our way back indoors.
