Projects
/ 52 Books
This project is pretty straightforward – 52 books, one per week for 52 weeks. That, however, does not mean that I’m starting and finishing a book in a week but rather I plan on averaging finishing a book each week at the end of the 52-week period. This list will be a healthy mix of books – some I’ve read, some shorter than others, some denser than others. Hopefully, this time of leisure will lead me to discover books I wouldn’t normally seek out. Why not? I’ve got nothing but time.
Time Frame: Weekly, week ending on Sunday, starting July 20, 2009 and ending July 18, 2010.
- The Devil in the White City: I read this a few years ago when it was first released in paperback. It’s still as engrossing as it was then. (finished July 21, 2009)

- Brave New World: A great depiction of a utopian future that’s far from being so. (finished July 28, 2009)

- Of Mice and Men: The story of two dreamers whose dreams of freedom come crashing down never gets old. (finished August 2, 2009)

- The Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty: An expertly story weaving biographical tales of the Yankees that made up the late 90s dynasty with the tense moments of the seventh game of the 2001 World Series. (finished August 8, 2009)

- On the Road: It’s a bit hard to follow at times, possibly due to the legendarily manic way in which it was written, but it’s one the best books you’ll ever read. (finished August 25, 2009)

- The Catcher in the Rye: Essentially a really long rant in which the protagonist rails against anything and everything. (finished September 5, 2009)

- In Cold Blood: A chilling depiction of horrific mass murder in 1950s Kansas, the story telling process later depicted in the even better feature film Capote. (finished September 9, 2009)

- Dreamland: A solid though unnecessarily epic tale of Coney Island and its colorful characters in the early 20th century. (finished September 15, 2009)
